Winterizing Your Deck Or Patio

As the end of summer approaches, there are many things to consider.  But perhaps one that you may have overlooked is protecting your deck from the upcoming winter season.  Okay, so it seems a little early to think about that.  But the sooner you come up with a plan to implement to safeguard your deck investment, the better off you will be in the long run. 

The first step you will want to tackle is to thoroughly clean your deck.  Removing dirt, fungus, or rust spots will help to prevent long-term damage.  Even if you have a newly built or remodeled deck, take the time to perform this vital step.  There could be something you may have overlooked after your deck project was completed.

Next you should strip any deteriorating or unwanted finish.  If your stain isn’t quite what it used to be, now is the time to strip.  You don’t want to try this step when winter is fast approaching, so now’s the time.  Your deck builder can certainly help out with any of these tasks!

Then you will want to seal your deck with water repellent finish.  This will help to prevent any damage during the fall and winter months from the harsh effects of rain, snow, and ice.
